Everything seem situational and up to player preference. Looking at the Cuphead sub, I'm pleased to find there's not one particular optimal loadout that outperforms everything else. You have a limited selection of different weapon loadouts to experiment with to find what works best for you. All of the bosses feel unique and weird and present their own challenges. Boss fights on the ground, boss fights in the air, run-and-gun levels, and a few special short stages that are jumping practice only.

The gameplay comes in four types of stages. It has a classic jazz soundtrack and a 1930's cartoon aesthetic that was surpringly a big turnoff for my wife who found it grotesque, but it didn't really bother me at all. I finished the game start to finish in 4 days over the winter break and only died about 800 times. Don't be intimidated by the difficulty, it's a really fun game and it can be completed by a normal person. This game has a reputation for being a punishingly difficult shoot-em-up, but it's probably a little overhyped.
